STATEHOUSE (May 13, 2022) – State Rep. Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) helped recognize Kristi and Kelsie Risk as Indiana's 2022 Entrepreneur of the Year during a recent award presentation at Owen County State Bank.
The award, presented by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation in conjunction with National Small Business Week, honored the Risks for their Spencer-based business, Diamond K Sweets & More LLC, a confectionery manufacturer of gourmet chocolate and candy with nationwide distribution. The mother-daughter duo started their business in 2013 and opened a storefront in 2015.
"Kristi and Kelsie are great examples of Hoosiers who turned their passion into a thriving business," Heaton said. "They're proof that dreams can be achieved through hard work and determination, and I'm glad the state recognizes success stories like this."
The IEDC honored a total of eight Hoosier small businesses that worked with the Indiana Small Business Development Center to start, develop or evolve their enterprises. Another area honoree was 3 Sisters Investment, which received the Community Impact Small Business of the Year Award. The Terre Haute real estate investment company specializes in creating community and family spaces. A list of all 2022 honorees may be found here.
According to the IEDC, Indiana has more than 529,000 small businesses employing over 1.2 million Hoosiers.
