STATEHOUSE (Feb. 17, 2016) — State Rep. Dick Hamm (R-Richmond) and State Sen. Jeff Raatz (R-Centerville) recently honored Larry Parker with a resolution at the Statehouse in recognition of his 36-year tenure on the Richmond Common Council.

Parker is the longest consecutively serving Republican in Wayne County, serving as Richmond Common Council president several times and working alongside six Republican and Democrat mayors during his many years of service.

“Larry is a prime example of a public servant who dedicated himself to bettering the community,” Hamm said. “I wish him the best in his retirement and thank him for his devotion to Richmond.”

“It was an honor to recognize Larry Parker for his 36 years of service on the Richmond Common Council,” Raatz said. “His commitment to the community is invaluable, and his public service will be greatly missed by many.”

Parker was first elected to the council seat in 1980 and re-elected nine times before retiring in 2015. Born and raised in Richmond, Parker graduated from Richmond High School in 1958 and received a bachelor’s degree from Murray State University in 1965. After teaching at Modoc School and Dennis Junior High School, he founded and managed operations at Bumblebee Quick Print, where he retired after 25 years.
