STATEHOUSE – State Representative Dick Hamm (R-Richmond) congratulates several local schools that were awarded teacher performance grants by the state. For the first time in Indiana history, grants will be presented to teachers rated either effective or highly effective as a bonus.

“The accomplishments of our local schools are extremely praiseworthy,” said Rep. Hamm. “My congratulations go out to all of the teachers, students and parents in our community who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in education.”

The following list includes the school corporations that received teacher performance grants in House District 56:

• Richmond Community Schools:  $101,304.10

• Centerville-Abington Community Schools:  $79,397.85

• Western Wayne Schools:  $27,457.95

• Northeastern Wayne Schools:  $22,010.27

Through House Enrolled Act 1001, which is the biennial budget that passed in 2013, a total of $30 million was allocated in teacher performance grants. The amounts awarded to qualifying schools were based on a combination of ISTEP+ and End-of-Course Assessment passing rates per pupil as well as graduation rates per pupil.

“Success in the classroom prepares students for the rest of their lives,” said Rep. Hamm. “Young people in our district are fortunate to be taught by some of the best educators in the state.”
