As the 2026 legislative session approaches, the Indiana House of Representatives is once again offering college students and recent graduates the opportunity to intern at the Statehouse. The Indiana House Republican Internship Program open to all majors and students interested in government, politics or civic engagement.
Interning with the House of Representatives often serves as a launchpad for tomorrow's leaders. Each year, our program attracts some of the brightest and most motivated young professionals from across the state. They come to the Statehouse eager to learn and witness firsthand how our state government works and serves the people of Indiana. Our interns contribute to the legislative process in significant ways across a variety of departments.
Several departments in the House have internships available, including legislative, communications and policy. Our interns work directly with state representatives, attend committee meetings, assist with research and bill tracking, and help facilitate constituent services and casework. Communications interns help draft press releases, work in graphic design and create weekly e-newsletters.
The 2026 legislative session runs from January to March, and students interning for the spring semester can earn $900 biweekly working full time, Monday through Friday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. College credit is also available for those who qualify.
One of my favorite and most valuable parts of this experience is the mentorship interns receive from legislative staff and General Assembly members. Interns gain insight from experienced professionals eager to share their knowledge. Professional development and skill-building are foundational aspects of our program. The relationships built and skills learned extend beyond the internship, providing guidance and networking opportunities that can shape future careers.
