Rep. Frye: Local farms honored at the Indiana State Fair

STATEHOUSE (Aug. 12, 2016) – Four local farms were recognized on Friday with Hoosier Homestead awards for 100 years or more of family farm ownership, according to State Rep. Randy Frye (R-Greensburg).

These local families were honored during a ceremony at the Indiana State Fair:

• Smith Farm, located in Ripley County, has been in operation since 1900 and received the centennial award;
• Chandler/Renfro Farm, located in Ripley County, has been in operation since 1821 and received the sesquicentennial award;
• Bauman Farm, located in Ripley County, has been in operation since 1892 and received the centennial award; and
• Obendorf Farm, located in Ripley County, has been in operation since 1855 and received the sesquicentennial award.

“The agriculture industry is the foundation of our state, and reaching the milestone of owning a farm for more than a century deserves recognition,” Frye said. “The commitment of these farms to support our local and state economy is outstanding. I am proud to represent such a strong farming community.”

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more.
