STATEHOUSE (Aug. 25, 2016) – Local communities received state matching grants this week to improve roads and bridges, according to State Rep. Randy Frye (R-Greensburg).
This year, Frye supported legislation establishing the state’s Community Crossings matching grant fund, which will provide about $160 million to Indiana cities, towns and counties on a 50/50 matching basis.
“Those living in southern Indiana, especially along the Ohio River, know that many of the roads going through our communities are in need of maintenance and improvement,” Frye said. “As a member of the House Committee on Roads and Transportation, it was a top priority of mine to emphasize the need for these funds to go to our local roads and bridges as we continue to bolster Indiana as the Crossroads of America.”
As part of the program, Dearborn County received $575,443, Decatur County received $1 million, Jefferson County $559,339 and Jennings County $513,479 for road and bridge improvements.
In addition, nine local communities were awarded grants, including Aurora ($71,794), Batesville ($1 million), Greendale ($380,695), Greensburg ($540,207), Hanover ($70,000), Lawrenceburg ($123,550), Milan ($67,375), North Vernon ($263,188) and Rising Sun ($138,850).
This week, INDOT announced 99 Southern Indiana cities, towns and counties were awarded $49 million through the fund. Projects that are eligible for funding through Community Crossings include road resurfacing, bridge rehabilitation, road reconstruction, resurfacing, and Americans with Disabilities Act compliance in connection with road projects. Material costs for chip sealing and crack filling operations were also eligible for funds.
