STATEHOUSE – It was announced today by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) that Peru Community School Corporation is being awarded an Excellence in Performance Award grant of $176,601. State Rep. Bill Friend (R-Macy) extends his congratulations to the teachers at Randolph Central School Corporation who have been reviewed as ‘effective’ and ‘highly effective’ educators. “This award reaffirms that we have many excellent teachers in our community,” said Rep. Friend. “Our students are in good hands and I’m pleased that their teachers can be rewarded for their hard work and commitment.” Grant winners were selected based on satisfying legal standards as well as the quality of the school corporation’s performance evaluation system in terms of ability to accurately differentiate teacher effectiveness, provide meaningful feedback to employees, and to support, develop and retain excellent teachers. The 2011 state budget established the Excellence in Performance Awards for Teachers grant program. The grant appropriated $6 million to be allocated to school corporations and charter schools to make cash awards to teachers rated as effective or highly effective through a performance evaluation system that meets IDOE and state law requirements. School corporations and charter schools receiving funds through the program must allocate the entire appropriation to effective and highly effective teachers based on their effectiveness. More information can be found on IDOE’s website at www.doe.in.gov then follow ‘Hot Topics’, ‘Educator Effectiveness’, and ‘Compensation’. “Congratulations to our local teachers receiving awards. They are well deserved and I hope that many more teachers in Indiana will be rewarded in the future,” said Rep. Friend. Rep.
