STATEHOUSE (March 2, 2020) – Granger resident Jake Carrico is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Dale DeVon (R-Granger) and his fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2020 legislative session.
Carrico is the son of Jeff and Stephanie Carrico. He graduated from Edwardsburg High School and is currently attending Purdue University, majoring in political science and theatre.
“There is truly no other experience like an Indiana House internship,” Carrico said. “I am being prepared for the professional world and gaining insight into the inner workings of the lawmaking process. My involvement has given me the necessary skills to succeed in the government arena and develop as a young professional.”
As a legislative intern, Carrico corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.
“Jake is learning valuable skills that expand on lessons taught in the classroom,” DeVon said. “He and other interns assist legislators and full-time staff with a variety of important tasks that help lawmakers better serve Hoosiers. The opportunities Jake has to learn the legislative process, listen to constituents and understand good policy will set him up for great success in the future.”
Carrico received the 2020 Verizon Indiana Legislative Intern Scholarship for his demonstration of high academic achievement, in addition to his work ethic, interpersonal skills and exceptional performance. The $3,000 scholarship can goes toward college or post-graduate expenses, and is awarded yearly to a top performer.
The House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities each year to college students, law-school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of each legislative session.
