STATEHOUSE (Feb. 13, 2017)—State Rep. Dale DeVon (R-Granger) and State Sen. Joe Zakas (R-Granger) honored the Marian High School boys soccer team Monday at the Statehouse for their second straight Class 1A state championship win.

The Knights finished the 2016 regular season with an 18-5 record and won every
postseason game by at least two goals. Led by their head coach of 19 years, Ben Householter, Marian defeated Providence High School 4-0 in the championship game held at Carroll Stadium in Indianapolis on Oct. 29, 2016.

“Both on the field and in the classroom, the Knights have been exceptional over the past two years,” DeVon said. “Not only have these young men excelled in athletics, but they have managed to do so with a full course load. Their success is a true testament to the commitment and drive they have displayed the past two years as well as the great example set by the entire coaching staff.”

“It’s an honor to recognize these players for their hard work and dedication,” Zakas said. “This is an accomplishment these young men can share with their classmates and the whole community. It is something to be proud of for years to come."

The team was presented with Senate Concurrent Resolution 15 and was recognized by both the Indiana House and Senate during their trip to the Statehouse.

State Rep. Dale DeVon (R-Granger) represents House District 5, which includes parts of St. Joseph county.
