STATEHOUSE (April 16, 2025) – The Indiana House passed legislation sponsored by State Rep. Kendell Culp (R-Rensselaer) to improve election integrity and boost voter identification requirements.
Thirty-six states, including Indiana, have laws requiring some form of identification at polls to prevent voter fraud. Culp said Senate Bill 10 would increase election security by removing student IDs as authorized proof of identification, ensuring only Indiana residents can vote in Indiana elections.
"A student ID gives very little information about the voter, only their name, university and a photo," Culp said. "This bill would treat college students the same as other voters, ensuring they have a government-issued ID to vote, such as a drivers license."
Senate Bill 10 would also require county voter registration offices to maintain updated voter lists and local health officers to share death records with them every quarter.
Senate Bill 10 now heads to the governor for further consideration. To learn more and follow legislative proceedings, visit iga.in.gov
