STATEHOUSE (March 26, 2025) – Henry County native Emma Smith is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Cory Criswell (R-Middletown) and his fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2025 legislative session.

Smith, an Alexandria-Monroe High School graduate, is the daughter of Matthew Smith. She is currently a junior at Indiana University in Bloomington and majoring in law and public policy and minoring in political and civic engagement.

"This internship has been a great experience to understand state-level government better," Smith said. "I have made great connections and friendships along the way."

As a legislative intern, Smith corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.

"This internship is allowing Emma to build connections and grow skills that will help lead her toward a promising career," Criswell said. "Each year, interns are an instrumental part of session. I encourage Hoosier students to take advantage of this great opportunity."

At the start of each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law-school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of the annual legislative session.
