STATEHOUSE (Dec. 17, 2025) – Benton County communities received over $1.6 million in state funding for local road and bridge projects, according to State Rep. Matt Commons (R-Williamsport).
The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, established through a law House Republicans passed in 2016, offers funding to local communities for road repairs, bridge maintenance, intersection upgrades and other infrastructure projects. Nearly 200 communities received $100 million in state matching grants for this round of funding.
"Safe and well-maintained roads and bridges are a priority," Commons said. "These grants help communities with essential infrastructure maintenance to support their economic growth and quality of life."
Area grant recipients include Benton County ($796,640), Boswell ($217,520) and Fowler ($603,848).
Commons noted that to be eligible for funding, smaller municipalities must contribute 20 percent in local funds, while larger communities are required to provide a 50 percent match. State guidelines also ensure that half of the available matching funds each year are directed to communities in counties with populations of 50,000 or fewer. Since 2016, the Community Crossings has invested over $2 billion in enhancing local roads and bridges.
