STATEHOUSE — State Rep. Woody Burton (R-Whiteland) authored a resolution recognizing the families of Indiana’s soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The resolution passed the House unanimously.
“These Hoosier men and women have paid the ultimate price for our country’s freedom, and they deserve to be honored,” said Rep. Burton. “Their families also deserve recognition for the sacrifices they made and their constant support to these heroes.”
In addition to the resolution, there was a ceremony at the Statehouse to unveil a banner honoring the Indiana families who are recipients of Gold Stars. The Gold Star pin is given by the Department of Defense to the families of soldiers who have died in conflicts or supporting various military operations.
The unveiling ceremony included the presentation of colors, the national anthem, taps and remarks from Governor Pence. Major General R. Martin Umbarger and other respected officials were present at the ceremony honoring the soldiers.
“I am privileged to author this resolution and participate in the ceremony to honor these Gold Star families. They deserve our support and recognition for their patriotism and sacrifice, and this ceremony is one way we can show them our respect,” said Rep. Burton.
