STATEHOUSE (June 17, 2016) — State Rep. Mike Braun (R-Jasper) congratulates Barbara Helm from Daviess County for her designation as a Distinguished Hoosier award recipient. Helm was presented the award at the Miss Indiana Competition Thursday night in Zionsville.

“For many years, Helm has tirelessly supported the Miss Indiana Organization and the Hoosier women who have participated in their pageants,” Braun said. “Her selflessness and devotion to these young ladies will be greatly missed, and I am honored to recognize her contributions to our state.”

Helm has been a member of the Miss Indiana Executive Board since 2000. She has also served as the Miss Indiana Southern Field Director since 2003. Helm founded and solely sponsored the Joy of Life Luncheon for Miss Indiana contestants since its inception.

The Distinguished Hoosier Award is one of the highest honors presented to Indiana citizens. The award is granted to Hoosiers who have brought admiration and respect to the state through their exemplary character and accomplishments.
