STATEHOUSE (April 19, 2024) – Vincennes University received a $4.6 million state funding boost Friday to move forward with an addition to the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy at Vincennes University, according to State Rep. Bruce Borders (R-Jasonville).

Borders voted in support of the funding as part of the current state budget and the State Budget Committee voted to release the funds during their meeting Friday at the Statehouse. Borders said the money will be used create a 7,200 square foot addition that will include an art gallery for Skelton's original works, event and archive space, a small catering kitchen, restrooms and an outdoor garden plaza.

"Red Skelton was a pioneer in comedy, radio and television, and it's important that Vincennes continues to memorialize one of their most famous sons," Borders said. "The museum and theater host many cultural events for the community, and adding an art gallery and event space will be a great local amenity."

The new event space is expected to be used to host community events and workshops, and traveling exhibits and shows.

The museum, housed on Vincennes University's campus, features interactive learning exhibits, memorabilia, a full stage and theater. To learn more or plan a visit to the museum, go to redskeltonmuseum.org
