STATEHOUSE – State Representative Bruce Borders (R-Jasonville) was appointed to serve as Vice Chairman of the Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee by House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis). The Speaker appoints committee chairs biennially, following each election of the General Assembly.

“I’m honored to be appointed to serve as Vice Chairman of the Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee,” said Rep. Borders. “Both of my son-in-laws joined the military, so veterans’ issues are very close to my heart. Helping our servicemen and women is an issue I have led on for several years, and I’m proud to continue doing so.”

Considered the “workhorse of the institution,” standing committees are vital to the success of the legislative process. Committees receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard the House floor.

“When I served as Mayor of Jasonville, I interacted regularly with the local police and fire departments. My experience working closely with public safety officials will be useful when I’m discussing those issues in the legislature,” said Rep. Borders. “Veterans and public safety officials are vital to our society. I take very seriously the chance to help those folks and provide them with the tools and resources they need.”
