These local families were honored during a ceremony at the Indiana State Fair:

  • May-Harris Farm, located in Jay County, has been in operation since 1865 and received the sesquicentennial award;
  • May Farm, located in Jay County, has been in operation since 1891 and received the centennial award;
  • Cabel Kimble Farm, located in Jay County, has been in operation since 1846 and received the sesquicentennial award;
  • Harley E. Brumm Farm, located in Jay County, has been in operation since 1911 and received the centennial award;

  • Beeler Farm, located in Jay County, has been in operation since 1909 and received the centennial award; and
  • Monte J. Burrows Farm, located in Randolph County, has been in operation since 1860 and received the sesquicentennial award.

“The Hoosier agriculture industry contributes greatly to Indiana’s economy,” Beumer said. “Owning a farm for more than a century is a momentous milestone. I’m glad I was able to be at the state fair to be a part of honoring these local families who are truly worthy of this recognition.”

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more.

Two award ceremonies are held each year, in the spring and summer, to commemorate the achievements of farmers across the state. For more information on the Hoosier Homestead Award Program, visit www.in.gov/isda/2337.htm.
