STATEHOUSE (Aug. 25, 2016) – Local communities received state matching grants this week to improve roads and bridges, according to State Rep. Greg Beumer (R-Modoc).
This year, Beumer supported legislation establishing the state’s Community Crossing matching grant fund, which will provide about $160 million to Indiana cities, towns and counties on a 50/50 matching basis.
“Indiana’s transportation infrastructure touches every sector of our economy,” Beumer said. “This is a step in the right direction to maintain our roads and bridges while we work toward a long-term solution in maintaining our reputation as the Crossroads of America.”
As part of the program, Delaware County received $981,366 and Randolph County received $325,000 for road and bridge improvements.
In addition, six local communities were awarded grants, including Daleville ($78,233), Dunkirk ($56,342), Eaton ($87,435), Portland ($239,205), Redkey ($44,096), Union City ($168,429) and Winchester ($182,488).
This week, INDOT announced 102 Central Indiana cities, towns and counties were awarded $47 million through the fund. Projects that are eligible for funding through Community Crossings include road resurfacing, bridge rehabilitation, road reconstruction and Americans with Disabilities Act compliance in connection with road projects. Material costs for chip sealing and crack filling operations were also eligible for funds.
