Beumer: Jay County farms receive distinguished award

STATEHOUSE (March 28, 2016) – State Rep. Greg Beumer (R-Modoc) congratulates five Jay County families for their designation as Hoosier Homestead Award recipients.

The following list includes the farms that received Hoosier Homestead awards:

  • The Floyd E. Cline Farm, located in Jay County, has been in operation since 1907 and received the centennial award;
  • Cline Farms, located in Jay County, has been in operation since 1901 and received the centennial award;
  • The Hudson Family Farm, located in Jay County, has been in operation since 1863 and received the sesquicentennial award;
  • The Bailey Farm, located in Jay County, has been in operation since 1838 and received the sesquicentennial award; and
  • The Robert C. Lyons Farm, located in Jay County, has been in operation since 1850 and received the sesquicentennial award.

“Our economy thrives off of Indiana farms, bringing in more than $44 billion and employing 190,000 Hoosiers,” Beumer said. “The agriculture industry is the foundation of our state, and reaching the milestone of owning a farm for more than a century deserves recognition.

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more.

Two award ceremonies are held each year, in the spring and summer, to commemorate the achievements of farmers across the state. For more information on the Hoosier Homestead Award Program, visit www.in.gov/isda/2337.htm.
