STATEHOUSE (Aug. 8, 2016) – State Rep. Greg Beumer (R-Modoc) on Thursday presented Douglas Fletcher with a Sagamore of the Wabash for his dedication to students and award-winning tenure as a band director.
During Fletcher’s 31 years directing local high school bands, he has won 13 state titles and holds the director record for most State Fair Band Day titles in Indiana history.
“Doug has positively impacted the lives of many people in our community,” Beumer said. “His leadership has helped many music enthusiasts perform at the national level, including the Indianapolis 500 Festival Parade and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. He is not only musically talented, but also a role model.”
After officially retiring this week, Fletcher is joining the music department at Purdue University.
A Sagamore of the Wabash award is the highest honor, which the governor of Indiana bestows upon an individual.
