STATEHOUSE (Aug. 8, 2023) – State Rep. Stephen Bartels (R-Eckerty) recently received an appointment to serve as vice chair of the Government Reform Task Force.

To prepare for the next legislative session, which kicks off in January, state legislators serve on interim committees throughout the summer and fall to examine policy issues, gather public input and recommend potential legislation.

"State agencies can propose and readopt rules that often impact everyday Hoosiers, and sometimes this red tape can create unnecessary hurdles," Bartels said. "As part of the Government Reform Task Force, I look forward to taking a look at this issue to see how we can boost transparency and hold our government more accountable to those we represent."

Bartels authored the law establishing the Government Reform Task Force. He will also serve as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Public Policy and on the Integrated Public Safety Commission.

Members of the public are welcome to attend and testify at committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. Hearings are also livestreamed and archived online at iga.in.gov, where committee calendars and meeting agendas are posted.
