Brad Barrett (R-Richmond) (right) with the Sagamore of the Wabash for his service to the state on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, in the governor's office at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. During the past seven years as a state representative, Barrett has served as a member on several key committees and as chair of the House Public Health Committee. Last session Barrett passed legislation that prevents Hoosier patients from receiving surprise bills after out-of-network ambulance rides. He was a part of passing legislation that addresses health care research, breast cancer screenings, EMS services and more. Dating back to the 1940s, the Sagamore of the Wabash award was created by former Gov. Ralph Gates. It is the highest honor the governor can bestow and is presented to distinguished Hoosiers who have made significant contributions to the state of Indiana.
