STATEHOUSE (April 4, 2019) – Martinsville High School graduate Austin Mayfield is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) and his fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2019 legislative session.
Mayfield, a resident of Martinsville, is the son of Dean and Peggy Mayfield. He is a Northern Kentucky University graduate and earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations.
As an intern in the House Majority Communications Office, Mayfield helps write press releases, create legislative handouts and assist with media relations.
“It’s always great to see young Hoosiers from our community working at the Statehouse,” Baird said. “Interns help us accomplish many different tasks while gaining valuable experience and skills. We wouldn’t be able to operate as efficiently or effectively without them.”
Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law-school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of each legislative session.
“I’ve really enjoyed working with and learning from all the legislators and staff,” Mayfield said. “My favorite parts of this internship have been writing press releases and other content, as well as helping the representatives with their media relations.”
