The NFIB is a membership organization that focuses on the impacts of current and proposed state and federal legislation and its impact on small business. The organization has a specialized understanding of what legislation would promote or harm small business growth. This year's scores were determined by floor votes that the state legislators made on key small business issues. The NFIB identified and analyzed the vote totals on nine bills that had a direct effect on small businesses, including bills regarding:
"The best way for the government to help small businesses grow is to just stay out of their way," said Rep. Frizzell. "I'll continue to vote in a way that makes Indiana a place where employers can feel confident about their businesses' future and, consequently, can feel confident about hiring again." Currently, 85 percent of all Hoosier employers are small businesses with less than 20 employees.
