STATEHOUSE-Rep. Dave Frizzell (R-Indianapolis) believes that the 2010 Legislative Session has done much to set Indiana on the right track during the difficult economic dilemma faced by our nation. "There were difficult decisions to be made," Rep. Frizzell said. "Rather than stretch out the process, we put our noses to the grindstone and did what we had to for the people of Indiana." The 2010 General Assembly passed legislation regarding unemployment insurance taxes which will help nearly 80,000 small, medium and larger employers and protect over 2 million Hoosier jobs. Legislators also worked to help local school districts keep teachers in the classroom. "I'm glad to be leaving this Session giving Hoosier businesses and schools a victory," said Rep. Frizzell. "Even on a tight budget, we were still able to do what we could to give hope to Hoosier families despite these tough economic times-and all without raising taxes." Earlier this year, the House of Representatives also passed one bill allowing the Illiana Expressway to be built without legislative approval. House Joint Resolution 1, one of the most important accomplishments of the session, was passed early on. It would graft property tax caps into the state constitution after being approved by voters on the November ballot. The act of giving homeowners, farmers and business owners the chance to cap their own taxes was the most sweeping tax reform Indiana has seen in several decades. The vast majority of Hoosiers want the opportunity to vote on this critical issue. -30- |
