Rep. Behning examines superintendent pay
STATEHOUSE - State Rep. Bob Behning (R-Indianapolis), Co-Chairman of the Interim Committee on Education Issues, heard testimony today at the committee's first interim meeting to discuss concerns relating to superintendent pay in Indiana.
"The issue of superintendent contracts and their performance was discussed this past session but a consensus was not reached on how best to examine and treat these contracts. Superintendent salary and benefit packages vary quite a bit throughout the state and in some cases have contained provisions that are not in the best interest of the school financially," said Rep. Behning. "This is an issue that needs to be addressed, and I am pleased that we are working towards constructing a solution."
The Interim Study Committee on Education Issues was held Thursday, July 29 at 1:00 p.m. in the House Chamber at the Statehouse. During the meeting, legislators heard from Dennis Brooks, the Senior Advisor to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and from superintendents across the state.
