STATEHOUSE — House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced standing committee assignments for the 119th General Assembly. Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election.
State Rep. Bob Behning (R-Indianapolis) has been appointed Chairman of the Education Committee. He will also serve on the Public Health Committee and Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on these committees,” said Rep. Behning. “We have made great strides over the years to improve the quality of Indiana’s education system and to provide Hoosier families with more choices on how best to educate their children. As Chairman of the Education Committee, I look forward to the thoughtful discussion that will take place as we seek to continue to improve education for Hoosier children.”
Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.
“I firmly believe that committees are the workhorses of the institution,” said Speaker Bosma. “I look forward to being a part of a new generation of leaders as they shepherd important bills through our legislative process.”
The 2015 legislative session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 1:30pm.
