STATEHOUSE - Today marked Organization Day for the Indiana House of Representatives, a ceremonial day on which all 100 members-including 19 new State Representatives-were sworn in by Chief Justice Shepard.
The newly elected Speaker of the House, Brian C. Bosma, pledged that he will do his duty and asks that all the Representatives do the same.
"We must focus on reforming our education system to make sure Hoosier students can compete both nationally and globally," said Rep. Behning.
"Our current unemployment levels are unacceptable. We must continue the work started in 2005 to create a competitive economic environment that fosters job creation. Finally, during these tough economic times it is imperative that we craft a state budget that lives within its means without raising taxes on Hoosiers," he said.
In September, the House Republican Caucus released their legislative plan, addressing Jobs, Education, Spending, and Standing Up to Washington, DC. At the time, now-Speaker Bosma also noted that he wanted to 'reach across the aisle' and 'bring civility back to the house chamber'.
