End Date: 6/22/2009

STATEHOUSE - A Smith Field runway will get a facelift, thanks to a grant of almost $1 million, state Rep. Phyllis Pond (R-New Haven) said Monday.

The grant - $915,764 - will pay for the Runway 13/31 Rehabilitation Project. The grant was made to the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority.

"I am pleased Smith Field is receiving funding to repair and repave the runway," said Rep. Pond. "This will make it easier for planes to charter to Fort Wayne, teams and performers to travel, and to refuel. I am always excited to have the Summit City become more accessible."

The grant is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and was made through the U.S. Department of Transportation.
