According to a release from the Indiana Department of Education, 70.2 percent of students passed both the English/Language Arts and Mathematics portions of the exam. In individual subjects, the assessment resulted in statewide pass rates of 78 percent in English/Language Arts, 79 percent in Mathematics, 69 percent in Science and 67 percent in Social Studies. In total, 963 Indiana schools saw improvement on their test scores.
This year in northeast Indiana, 68.5 percent of students passed both sections of the ISTEP. These scores were up from 67.5 percent in 2010.
"Even though this is a small improvement, I am proud of the higher scores and all of the hard work that was put into this achievement," said Rep. Pond.
In Allen County, the overall majority of public schools in the district saw ISTEP improvements on both the English/Language Arts and Mathematics sections.
"I want to congratulate the teachers, students and their parents on this achievement," said Rep. Pond. "I hope the local schools continue to produce improving results for years to come, and put an emphasis on providing great educational opportunities for all students in our community."
