The newly elected Speaker of the House, Brian C. Bosma, pledged that he will do his duty and asks that all the Representatives do the same. "Through my time at the Statehouse I have not quite seen an economic climate as challenging as the one we have ahead of us now. It is imperative that we focus primarily on economic issues and creating a good economic climate for job creation in Indiana," said Rep. Phyllis Pond (R-New Haven). "We will also be crafting a two-year state budget during these economic times. We cannot balance the budget on the backs of Hoosier taxpayers. We must live within our means." In September, the House Republican Caucus released their legislative plan which addressed their goals for jobs, education, government spending, and standing up to Washington, D.C. At the time, now-Speaker Bosma also noted that he wanted to 'reach across the aisle' and 'bring civility back to the house chamber'. -30- |
