On Nov. 13, Speaker Bosma announced the leadership team for one of the most important committees in the House of Representatives, Ways and Means. Rep. Tim Brown (R-Crawfordsville) was appointed chairman of the committee and will lead the team in crafting a balanced budget for the next two fiscal years.

I was also appointed to a leadership role as the Chair of the Health and Medicaid Subcommittee; a privilege that I take very seriously.

In addition to these appointments, the following representatives will serve on the Ways and Means leadership team as well:  Rep. Crouch (R-Evansville) as the Vice Chair of Ways and Means, Rep. Turner (R-Cicero) as the Budget Committee Alternate, Rep. Cherry (R-Greenfield) as the Chair of the Budget Subcommittee,  Rep. Dermody (R-LaPorte) as the Chair of the Higher Education Subcommittee, Rep. Thompson (R-Lizton) as the Chair of the K-12 Education Subcommittee and Rep. Leonard (R-Huntington) as the Chair of the Local Government or Tax Subcommittee.

Speaker Bosma has put together an exceptional team of leaders to advise the Ways and Means committee and subcommittees. I aim to continue to build on Indiana’s fiscal strengths by finding innovative ways to spur economic development and growth. Indiana is on the right track and is open for business. Employers know this and have answered the call. In my role on Ways and Means, I want to make sure that Indiana continues to be a leader for fiscal responsibility and good governance, bettering the lives of all Hoosiers.

Indiana is not aiming to go from good to great, we are already there. We are looking to go from great to exceptional. Speaker Bosma has echoed these sentiments as we look to build on our state’s momentum.  New leadership always brings the potential for excellence, and in the case of Chairman Brown and the other new appointments, I have no doubt that is the case.

My experiences through the years in the Ways and Means Committee have led me to believe that leadership is key in the successful balancing the state’s budget. I believe that this team has the experience, wisdom and perseverance to ensure that our state continues to live within its means and provide and an economic climate conducive to job growth. Indiana will continue to be the envy of the nation, leading the charge for fiscal stability, employment opportunities and ensuring every Hoosier has a great education.
