Over the past several years, I have lived in various parts of District 85. It is my home, and I am dedicated to seeing it prosper. My focus is on serving the people of our community. In that vein, I’d like to introduce myself and tell you a bit about my background. I am a graduate of Leo Jr. Sr. High School where through my studies and participation in activities like varsity basketball and student council, I gained a passion for service, teamwork and public policy at a young age. After high school, I headed to Indiana University where I continued my academic and public service pursuits. I served as Chairman of the College Republicans and later as Student Body President. Most importantly, I met my ‘college sweetheart,’ Melissa, and married her a few years after graduation. After I completed my undergraduate studies, I attended IU Bloomington’s Maurer School of Law, graduating with honors. During law school, I was appointed by Governor Mitch Daniels to serve on the Indiana University Board of Trustees, where I was one of nine trustees responsible for governing Indiana University. After law school, Melissa and I came home to Northeast Indiana. Through my work with small businesses, nonprofits and local governments as a lawyer with Beers Mallers Backs & Salin and my involvement in various nonprofit boards and public commissions, I’ve been able to continue my passion for service and commitment to others. Melissa and I now have two children—Adrianne and Andrew. I work hard to provide for my family, and I try to serve as a positive role model for my children. As a young father, I do my best to instill those values that I’ve learned through faith and family in our community in my own children. Now, as a state legislator, I have embraced an opportunity to become part of something much larger than myself. I look forward to meeting you and listening to you over the next few months. As the new Representative for our district, I take very seriously the responsibility of bringing our community’s voice to the Statehouse. I will work tirelessly to serve constituents and promote our shared Hoosier values. -30-
