Bolstering local businesses by supporting our veterans
Servicemen and women of the past and present have made so many sacrifices to preserve the virtues and sovereignty of our nation. Many have paid the ultimate sacrifice to defend our values and freedom, and each veteran deserves the recognition and support necessary upon their return from serving our country.
The unemployment rate for post-9/11 veterans in Indiana is more than double the state’s unemployment rate at 20.1 percent, ranking our state 47th in the country. It is time for more to be done when it comes to finding solutions to integrate our vets into Indiana’s workforce.
The Veteran Opportunity Partner-Employment Opportunities is a solution to this problem. This program allows for businesses who want to make hiring veterans a priority to fill out an application by entering straightforward information such as the company’s name, website, location, industry and a brief description. By doing this, the organization will be listed as a veteran-friendly business.
When a veteran comes back and goes to apply for a job, either through veterans’ affairs or the Department of Workforce Development, these companies will show up. They will also have resources to work with them on reentry.
Not only will this program help Hoosier veterans get back on their feet after returning from duty, it will also give businesses a chance to grow their establishment by hiring eager and skillful individuals with supreme work ethic.
Additionally, Governor Pence is encouraging Hoosier veterans, after returning home, to provide Indiana with additional economic opportunities by starting and expanding their own businesses with the Indiana Veteran’s Business Enterprise Program. By promoting significant business practices and opportunities, fostering partnerships and integrating Indiana veteran-owned businesses within the business structure of the state, we will ensure a smooth transition for our returning veterans as well as bolster Indiana’s economy.
The company must first register with the Indiana Department of Administration. If you need assistance in doing this, call 317-234-3524 or send an email to email@example.com. After the registration is complete, a letter must be provided from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to verify VA classification to the prime contractor.
It is imperative that we do all that we can to ease transitions for veterans and offer guidance when it comes to employment information. Not only will this help a Hoosier veteran use his or her skills to provide for themselves and their families, we will also be strengthening our local Indiana businesses.
