2013 House Republican Internship The Indiana House of Representatives is looking for interns! The interns play a critical role in the legislative process at the Statehouse in Indianapolis as they perform a variety of essential tasks. It is both an exciting and rewarding experience – not to mention paid – to be a full-time intern with either caucus. The House Republican Internship Program is accepting applications until Oct. 31, and undergraduate to graduate students, or even those who have already graduated, are encouraged to apply. If you are still in school, I encourage you to meet with your advisors regarding class credit. Most Indiana universities give class credit for your time and work at the Statehouse; a win-win. The Republican caucus offers the following internships: Member Services - Interns will track and research legislation and bills, work one-on-one with representatives and handle constituent inquiries. Media - Interns will work one-on-one with the representatives and their media by writing news releases and columns, preparing and distributing news feeds for radio stations, updating members’ websites and assisting with weekly video productions. In addition to these two internships, there are also two other internships available in Fiscal/Policy and Computer/ Technology. Working with state legislators and staff during the internship will provide numerous transferable skills to better position interns for future employment. The internship helps develop interpersonal communication, organizational and administrative skills. These skills are critical in any career path. For more information and details on how to apply, interested individuals should visit, www.in.gov/legislative/house_republicans, select the ‘Student Opportunities’ tab at the top of the page, then select ‘Internships’. I would love to see some familiar faces from Northeast Indiana as interns this legislative session. Good luck on the application! -30- |
