STATEHOUSE — House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced standing committee assignments for the 119th General Assembly. Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election.
State Rep. Matt Lehman (R-Berne) has been appointed Chairman of the Insurance Committee. He will also serve on the Courts and Criminal Code Committee and Public Policy Committee.
“It is an honor to be appointed to these committees, and I am eager to get to work,” said Rep. Lehman. “Participating in these committees will allow me the opportunity to delve into the critical issues facing Hoosiers today.”
Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.
“I firmly believe that committees are the workhorses of the institution,” said Speaker Bosma. “I look forward to being a part of a new generation of leaders as they shepherd important bills through our legislative process.”
The 2015 legislative session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 1:30pm.
