STATEHOUSE - Today marked Organization Day for the Indiana House of Representatives, a ceremonial day on which all 100 members-including 19 new State Representatives-were sworn in by Chief Justice Shepard. The newly elected Speaker of the House, Brian C. Bosma, pledged that he will do his duty and asks that all the Representatives do the same. "I'm humbled to have the opportunity to help move Indiana forward," said Rep. Matt Lehman (R-Berne). Rep. Lehman entered the legislature as a freshman two years ago in 2008. "We will have many challenges this session, including crafting a balanced budget with no tax increases, creating a positive environment for job creation and bringing our education system into the 21st century. If we work together, I'm confident that we can have a productive session that is positive for Hoosier taxpayers," he said. In September, the House Republican Caucus released their legislative plan which addressed their goals for jobs, education and government spending. At the time, now-Speaker Bosma also noted that he wanted to 'reach across the aisle' and 'bring civility back to the house chamber'. -30- |
