Start Date: 8/10/2009 All Day
End Date: 8/10/2009
STATEHOUSE - Unemployed Hoosiers have enough stress in their lives without struggling to find helpful information.

A new booklet contains phone numbers, addresses, benefit information, application guidelines, job-interview advice and other resources to assist jobless Hoosiers. It is a one-stop guide to state agencies and available programs.

The booklet, produced by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, will assist constituents in applying for unemployment benefits. Once these immediate needs are met, Hoosiers can refer back to it again as they begin their job search.

"Adams County has been hit especially hard by this financial climate, especially with the downturn in the auto and RV industry" said state Rep. Matt Lehman (R-Berne).  "There are numerous government programs available for job-seekers, but navigating government agencies and finding things you may be eligible for takes time.  It just makes sense to consolidate information about all of them into one easy resource."

The brochure gives a brief overview of each program, as well as eligibility requirements and instructions for application. Programs featured include Hoosier Healthwise, the Healthy Indiana Plan (healthcare for adults), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families, Rx for Indiana (free or discounted prescription medications), Housing/Foreclosure Prevention, Heating Assistance and Childcare Assistance.

This 19-page color brochure is a must-have for the unemployed and for people with friends or family who are unemployed. The brochures are available at WorkOne Centers around the state, and online at www.IN.gov/dwd/unemployment.

"Many people don't realize all the state can provide for their job search," Lehman adds. "Stop past a WorkOne Center, with a valid photo I.D,  and receive valuable help.  Recent grads and those thinking about going back to work could benefit from this useful brochure."

WorkOne Centers offer computer labs, internet service, fax machines, copier and telephones, interview and resume coaching, computer classes, just to name a few.

There are two WorkOne Centers in District 79: 126 S. 1st St. in Decatur (260-724-2037) and 3156 E. State Rd. 124 in Bluffton (260-824-0855).
