Berne officials took a sunny drive to the Indiana Statehouse last Friday to be honored with a 2010 Indiana Main Street Downtown Enhancement Grant, presented by State Rep. Matt Lehman (R-Berne) and Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman.

The $5,000 grant will fund downtown signage directing motorists and visitors to shops, restaurants, and other downtown attractions. Officials believe this will further strengthen the economic vitality of Berne's Swiss-themed downtown area.

"Congratulations to the City of Berne for continuing to move forward with their plans to make Berne an even more attractive place to live and work," said Rep. Lehman.

This past summer, Berne celebrated the dedication of its 160-foot Swiss clock tower, a replica of the famous Swiss clock tower in Berne, Switzerland. The tower includes a working Glockenspiel.
