This is a special week for our teachers, and I would feel extremely guilty if I were to let it pass without honoring our educators. This week May 3-7 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Students use this time to give gifts or simply just say thanks for all the hard work and time teachers spend throughout each school year. We have all had a favorite teacher or one that has inspired us. Teachers shape our minds and prepare us for the future. Whether it is learning the alphabet in kindergarten or government as a senior in high school, teachers help us each step of the way. It is important to let teachers know just how much they are cherished for their instruction, patience, and dedication to our future generations. As I reflect back on my educational experience, there is one teacher who instantly comes to mind. Mr. Tom Dick was my biology teacher at Evansville Mater Dei High School. He had an ability to make biology easy to understand and was very encouraging. I admired the fact that he did not allow students to fall below their potential. Even though Mr. Dick came across as being very strict and no nonsense, he was still very fair. Not only did I learn biology but I learned a lot about respect. Mr. Dick, thank you for your selfless service to educating me and many other students. Know that your efforts did not go unnoticed. I hope every student has the opportunity to have a teacher leave an impression on their lives the way you did mine. Thank you very much! I encourage everyone to take a few minutes this week and thank a teacher of their choice. This educator could be your former teacher or a teacher of one of your children. It is important to thank those who have given so much towards molding the minds of future generations. |
