"Changing the 1-percent cap to being based on household income rather than assessed value is absolutely ludicrous," said Rep. Crouch. "The caps on property tax should be tied to assessed value, not income.  Not only that, but we have no idea the ramifications that this bill will have.

"The legislation isn't clear on what is a constituent's household income. If my mother is living with me does her income count?

"In addition, this bill would require every taxpaying household's income to be public information. My constituents are concerned about their Social Security numbers being public, let alone their income."

Illegal Immigration

"This bill is nowhere near being strict enough, but it is a start to addressing the issue of 100,000 immigrants living in Indiana," said Rep. Crouch. "This bill does nothing to address government assistance, such as Medicaid, which should be for legal residents only. We need tighter rules and tougher penalties for illegal immigrants and those who hire them."
