STATEHOUSE – “Six years ago, during my first session, an amendment was offered on a bill to make Indiana a Right to Work state. I voted against that amendment and said on the floor Right to Work may be the right thing for Indiana and Right to Work may bring jobs to Indiana. But an issue this important should go through the legislative process with all the stakeholders at the table. “We are here today, six years later, with a bill that would make Indiana a Right to Work state. I have met and talked to stakeholders. I sat in on joint House/Senate committee hearings and was struck by the testimony of the site consultant who said that what's important to a company is utility and transportation infrastructure, government incentives, tax structure, education, and much more. Right or wrong, good or bad, there are some companies because of their perception or bias they won't even look at what our state has to offer. “So it is about jobs. It is also about individual rights. Is it right for an employer and union to enter into a contract that forces an individual to pay dues to get and hold a job? I support Right to Work for more Hoosier jobs and to promote the rights of all individuals.”
