Rep. Crouch proposes legislator pay raise freeze

STATEHOUSE - State Representative Suzanne Crouch (R- Evansville) is proposing an amendment that would suspend pay raises for all state legislators in 2012 and 2013. The governor, after instituting a pay freeze for two years, recently approved salary raises for state employees at the start of the calendar year.

"These are tough economic times, families are struggling and there are Hoosiers still out of work," said Rep. Crouch. "There are reasons to be optimistic in the near future, but I believe for us to create a fiscally responsible and balanced budget that state legislators should forgo raises for the next two years until things can improve further."

Raises for state legislators would not be considered until the start of the fiscal year in July.
