Rep. Crouch lauds Staff Sgt. Moore STATEHOUSE- Today, Staff Sgt. Scott Riley Moore will be presented with the Distinguished Hoosier award for his outstanding service in the United States Army. Moore was nominated by State Representative Suzanne Crouch (R-Evansville). The Distinguished Hoosier award is one of the highest awards given to Indiana citizens by the governor. It is awarded to those who have brought honor to the state through their character and accomplishments. Moore, from Evansville, joined the US Army on March 27, 2003 and has been given numerous awards for his achievements and services including: the Bronze Star Medal, a Purple Heart, an Army Commendation Medal with Valor Device, two Army Commendation Medals, and the Army Achievement Medal. "Staff Sgt. Moore exemplifies what it means to be a Distinguished Hoosier. He has selflessly served not only this state, but our nation. It was an honor to be given the opportunity to nominate him for this award," said Rep. Crouch. Moore has toured in Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan. In Iraq he helped secure the first elections during a 12 month tour, and as a Platoon Sergeant in Afghanistan he brought home all of his men without injury or loss of life. Moore has also participated in a grueling barrage of courses including advanced marksmanship classes, the Army's emergency medical technician training, the Warrior Leaders Course, Army Pathfinder, Advanced Leaders Course I and II, and US Army Ranger School. Moore is currently serving as a Ranger Instructor at Camp Frank D. Merrill in Dahlonega Georgia. Staff Sgt. Moore will be with his family to receive the award at the Log Inn on December 29 at 6:00 p.m. He is the son of Rodger and Cathy Moore from Indianapolis, and Jamia and Tim Wildt of Evansville. He is the grandson of Jack and Barbara Weatherholt, and Jim and Barbara Powless of Evansville. Moore's wife Allison and two sons, Riley and Jack, live in Evansville, as well. -30- |
