STATEHOUSE – On Friday, July 13, State Rep. Suzanne Crouch (R-Evansville) presented Lance Cpl. Joseph Crouch with the Distinguished Hoosier Award. Lance Cpl. Crouch was nominated by Rep. Crouch for his heroic efforts to save a fellow Marine on May 2, 2011. Crouch disregarded his own safety and welfare by coming to the aid of another Marine who had caught on fire in a fuel farm. Crouch helped to extinguish the flames and notify law enforcement personnel of the situation. In addition, Crouch stayed calm and exhibited expertise and poise by preventing further fire damage to his fellow Marine and to the fuel farm. He was able to stabilize the injured Marine until medical emergency personnel were able to transport him to the hospital. “Such acts of bravery and initiative deserve to be rewarded and I’m so pleased I was able to present the Distinguished Hoosier Award to Lance Cpl. Crouch,” said Rep. Crouch. “He exemplifies what the award means and it was an honor to meet and thank him for his service to our nation.” Rep. Crouch presented the award to Lance Cpl. Crouch at his welcome home party. Lance Cpl. Crouch was born in Evansville and graduated from North High School in 2008. Lance Cpl. Crouch is the son of Tim and Barbara Crouch. Tim Crouch is the cousin of Rep. Crouch. The Distinguished Hoosier award is one of the highest awards given to Indiana citizens by the governor. It is awarded to those who have brought honor to the state through their character and accomplishments. -30-
