(STATEHOUSE) March 24, 2009 - Rep. Suzanne Crouch (R-Evansville) today joined the Indiana General Assembly in honoring the families of Indiana soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending their country, especially those fighting the war on terrorism. In a resolution, the Indiana General Assembly offered gratitude and prayers to the families of the 152 fallen men and women from Indiana. As part of the ceremony, the families were invited into the House chamber for the reading of the resolution. Following this reading, the names of the soldiers were read and Adjutant General R. Martin Umbarger spoke before the assembly. "I was proud to honor Hoosiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom," Rep. Crouch said. "It was humbling to meet with the families who have lost their loved ones. I am grateful for their commitment to preserving our country. " Rep. Crouch represents parts of Vanderburgh, Warrick and Spencer counties. The names of soldiers from these Indiana counties were read to the House. VanderburghCounty Army National Guard Spc. William A. Jeffries, age 39. William gave his life on March 31, 2003, in Kuwait. Army Spc. Ryan G. Carlock, age 25. Ryan gave his life on March 31, 2003, in Iraq. Army Pfc. Darren A. Deblanc, age 20. Darren gave his life on April 29, 2005, in Iraq. Army Pvt. Jonathan R. Pfender, age 22. Jonathan gave his life on Dec. 30, 2005, in Iraq. Marine Sgt. Brock Babb, age 40. Brock gave his life on Oct. 15, 2006, in Iraq. Army Cpl. William Powell (Kerchief), age 21. William gave his life on Aug. 17, 2007, in Iraq.
