STATEHOUSE – State Rep. Suzanne Crouch (R-Evansville) congratulates Andrew Dam, a senior at Signature School in Evansville, on being appointed to the Indiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council (ILYAC). Rep. Crouch nominated Andrew, and his appointment was recently approved by Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis).

“Being appointed to the ILYAC is a great honor, and I am very pleased that Andrew, who has proven he is a leader among his peers, will participate,” said Rep. Crouch. “Being a part of the ILYAC will allow him to be a spokesperson for youth across Indiana, which is extremely important to the General Assembly.”

Andrew was nominated for his promise in academics, leadership and citizenship. He is currently the editor-in-chief for the Signal, his school newspaper, and also heavily involved in his school’s student council and National Honor Society.

Students who serve on the ILYAC serve a two-year term. The group is responsible for submitting at least one annual report to the Indiana General Assembly on issues pertaining to youth and young adults across the state. Originally overseen by the Indiana Department of Education, ILYAC activity has been overseen by the Indiana Bar Foundation since 2010.

This year, the council is working to engage more communities across the state to ensure the views of the youth are more accurately expressed. The ILYAC has been observing the activity of other youth advisory councils and plans to initiate some of those events in the future.

“It is very important for the Indiana General Assembly to hear from young Hoosiers about the issues that directly affect them,” said Rep. Crouch. “The ILYAC is a wonderful organization, and I believe Andrew will be an excellent addition.”
