STATEHOUSE – State Rep. Suzanne Crouch (R-Evansville) congratulates the schools receiving the 2011-2012 Healthy Hoosier Schools Award announced by the Indiana Department of Education. The following six schools in Rep. Crouch’s district will receive the award:

• North High School – Gold level winner
• Luce Elementary School – Silver level winner
• Plaza Park International Prep Academy – Silver level winner
• Vogel Elementary School – Silver level winner
• Stockwell Elementary School – Bronze level winner
• William Henry Harrison High School – Bronze level winner

A total of 113 schools received the Healthy Hoosier School Award this year.

“Our children’s wellness and health is very important for a multitude of reasons,” said Rep. Crouch. “These schools have worked to make it a priority, and I applaud them for their efforts.”

The Healthy Hoosier School Award, now in its eighth year, was developed by the Indiana Action for Healthy Kids Team. The award honors Indiana schools that have policies and educational programs in place to promote proper nutrition and increased physical activity among students. The winners are selected for their exemplary level of commitment to create an environment that encourages children to have healthy habits.

Awards are based on Gold, Silver or Bronze level placement. The highest ranked elementary school and middle school/high school each receive a $750 grant. Three runners-up in each category receive a $500 grant. All participating schools receive a certificate of recognition and a Healthy Hoosier School Report Card.

Winners will be recognized on June 19, 2012 at the Indiana School Health Network Annual Conference.

“Congratulations to all of the schools receiving the Healthy Hoosier School Award. I hope we can continue the trend of adding more of our local schools to the list every year and keep promoting the wellness of our students,” said Rep. Crouch.
