STATEHOUSE – State Representative Suzanne Crouch (R-Evansville) attended the scooter summit in Indianapolis today hosted by American Bikers Aimed Toward Education (ABATE) of Indiana.

“This is an issue that has come up again and again in our community,” said Rep. Crouch. “I’m interested in hearing what organizations like ABATE think should be done about moped/scooter laws in Indiana. They have a direct link to the biking culture and can provide insight on what might need to change in order to ensure that people who drive mopeds do it safely and legally.”

The summit was held in order for attendees to discuss how to better clarify the rules of the road. According to ABATE, it is difficult to accurately assess how many people in Indiana drive mopeds because they aren’t required to have a specialized license or registration.

“I’m looking at many avenues to see what public opinion is about scooters/mopeds and the current regulations,” Rep. Crouch said. “I appreciate ABATE hosting this summit and hope it leads to a statewide discussion on what actions the Legislature needs to take, if any, in the 2014 session.”
