STATEHOUSE – State Rep. Suzanne Crouch (R-Evansville) congratulates the two schools in House District 78 that were named Four Star Schools by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) today. IDOE announced that 162 public schools in Indiana, including both Castle North Middle School and John H. Castle Elementary School, were named Four Star Schools. “Congratulations to the students, faculty, staff and administration at both schools,” said Rep. Crouch. “These schools have set the bar high, and their students have made great achievements. This is a great honor, and I applaud their work.” To be considered a Four Star School, a school’s combined English 10 and Algebra 1 End of Course Assessment passing percentages must fall into the top 25th percentile when compared to schools statewide. In addition, a school must have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under the federal No Child Left Behind Act to qualify. IDOE reviewed data for non-public schools and included the top non-public schools as honorees. Public schools and non-public schools had separate cut scores and were only compared to like schools. This means public schools were only compared to other public schools, and non-public schools were only compared to other non-public schools. The calculations were completely independent of one another. I hope that both Castle North Middle School and John H. Castle Elementary can continue with this success in the future,” said Rep. Crouch. -30- |
